As Managing Partner of M.O. Awoyemi & Co., he litigated in American Federal Courts on behalf of 42 families in the Dana Airlines crash case in which 163 lives were lost on the 3rd of June 2012 at Iju Ishaga in Lagos, Nigeria. He obtained a record multi-million dollar out of court settlement on behalf of 36 families.

He has also successfully defended some European publicly traded companies in Nigerian courts.

He has worked with some of the most prestigious law firms in the world like Baker & McKenzie, LLP and Holland & Knight, LLP, to mention a few.

He was awarded his Ph.D from Tulane University Law School, New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2003 where he was in the top 5% of his LLM class.

He is a New York licensed Attorney, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales, licenced Attorney the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Court of International Trade .

He also holds an LL.B and B.L from Ogun State University and the Nigerian Law School, respectively. He was Awarded Tulane Law School’s Merit Based Scholarship; a recipient of two CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for obtaining the highest grade in two courses in his LL.M class and is an honored member of ‘Strathmore’s Who’s Who Registry of outstanding professionals.

In 2012, Bunmi was one of the three finalists invited to Addis Ababa for final selection interview by the MO IBRAHIM FOUNDATION’S LEADERSHIP FELLOWSHIP for the position of Advisor to the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa out of the over 1,000 shortlisted candidates worldwide.

Martins Olajide Awoyemi of blessed memory was a legal practitioner of many years. He started his career in Legal Practice in Chief F.R.A Williams’ Chambers and later took appointment as Legal Adviser to National Bank of Nigeria Limited from 1971 to 1976. He moved to Daily Times of Nigeria also as a Legal Adviser from 1976 to 1978. He was in full time Legal Practice as Principal in M.O. Awoyemi & Co. since January 1979 till his demise in April, 2003.
